Dave Alvin, Cindy Cashdollar, and Christy McWilson

When Dave Alvin stopped in to Studio 101, he brought with him two of his "Guilty Women".
Cindy Cashdollar grew up in Woodstock, New York which turned out to be a great place to learn from music masters like Paul Butterfield, John Herald, and Levon Helm and Rick Danko of The Band. Her dobro and steel guitar skills have earned her a place on stage and in the recording studio with Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams, Asleep at the Wheel, Van Morrison, and Leon Redbone...(just to name a few).
Christy McWIlson's unique and inspiring voice is enhanced by many of the difficulties she has faced in her life. Overcoming a struggle with Bi-Polar disorder and the day to day struggles of being a single parent have added an emotional empathy to her lyrical interpretation that is often lacking in other performers. Audience members are often moved to tears or joyous exuberance by her soulful performances.
Dave Alvin pointed out in this Studio 101 session that no matter the genre of music he is playing at any given moment, "it's all the same three chords". Dave has played rockabilly, blues, country, roots rock, and lilting acoustic melodies throughout his impressive career. Dave Alvin has ben a driving force in bands like The Blasters and X as well as The Flesh Eaters and The Gun Club. These days, Dave mostly does solo projects or focuses on the folkier aspect of his performing and songwriting talents as he did in 2009 with his "Dave Alvin and the Guilty Women" album.
