John Gorka

Singer - Songwriter John Gorka has been, by far, one of our most memorable Studio 101 guests.
When asked who we wanted to see come to perform in the Roanoke Valley shortly after 101.5 the music place launched, the name John Gorka popped up immediately.
John's songs have an interesting blend of light and darkness about them that only seems to magnify the depth and pith of their subject matter. Seeing him perform live would be a treat for sure, but to interview him and have him sing those songs in our studio as well would be a thrill! Getting the news that he had agreed to stop in before his Kirk Avenue Music Hall performance resulted in some very happy staff members at 101.5 the music place.
In person, John is a very nice guy. He gives the impression of being a bit shy and in possession of a fine sense of humor (especially when the subject at hand is his home state of New Jersey). Over an impressive 30 year career in music, John Gorka has created and shared songs that inspired Rolling Stone magazine to call him, "the preeminent male singer-songwriter of what has been dubbed the New Folk Movement."
