Mary Edna Thompson, also known as The Soup Lady, is a selfless community leader whose dedication to serving others has made her difficult to contact. That's because she is living exactly what it means to be a Community Champion. Staying late at fiddler's conventions offering delicious soup free of charge, Mary Edna asks nothing in return for her goodwill. She gives of herself--using food and kindness to touch lives all over the Roanoke Valley and beyond.

Those who know Mary Edna describe her as a "kind soul" who has never before been officially thanked by the community. 101.5 the music place is proud to officially thank Mary Edna, who has also volunteered with relief efforts during natural disasters. She stayed in a trailer and tent for months to feed the hungry and offer her support to those in need.
